The answer is very simple. Newgrounds counts plays as you visit the song's page to listen to it and downloads as you access the download link. Since there might be flash games or movies here that load their music by downloading it directly from the portal instead of including the song within the swf file this will also be counted as a download. And it will be counted each time the flash thing will load your song (maximum once per day per user). So, congratulations, someone has used your song in a flash game, a flash movie, or just shared the download link around the web. Who knows (I don't know btw ;) ).

When I first started submitting stuff, before I had fans or anything, I thought I had an unknown stalker because every time I uploaded the song it would have a download or two right off the bat.

But I do tend to download your songs because you tend to remove them from the plane of existence. Now of course, you've every right to do that, but I'm rather fond of your tunes so I'll keep them if I may.
